Samsung Galaxy SL i9003 tips and tricks

The Galaxy S is the most successful mobile phone Samsung has ever produced to date. In the vulnerable period of 7 months (June 2010 - Dec 2011) Samsung claims to sell 10 million units worldwide. Recognized or not, this is exactly what is one reason Samsung is launching its newest product-I9003 GT or more popularly known as the Galaxy SL.
 

Design 
Dimensions 12:37 x 6:42 x 1:06 cm, weight 131 gram, Gorilla Glass display, glossy plastic on the back, three buttons below the screen (menu, back and home), the power button on the right side, volume control on the left side. Design Galaxy SL is identical to its predecessor, the Galaxy S. The difference lies in the new dimension and feel when held together. Although using the same material, Galaxy SL feels more solid and steady grip than the Galaxy S. It may be the effect of weight that is slightly heavier. The composition of matter, PULSE deplored the absence of a camera shutter button that previously did not exist in the Galaxy S.
 
Screen 
SC-capacitive touch screen LCD, 16 million colors, 4 inch, 480x800 pixels, Super AMOLED clearly have a much better contrast when compared with SC-LCD, but that does not mean SC-LCD has the quality of the ordinary. Because in fact PULSE display Galaxy SL feels somewhat better than TFT LCD screen embedded in the smartphone class. Aldiko Ebook as the name implies serves to read digital books or more popularly known as ebook. There are 2 books that can be directly read, Pride & Prejudice and The Adventures of Sherlock Homes. To add a collection of books you can press the menu button and choose "Get more books." At the option is available a lot of ebooks that can be downloaded for free. There is also an application called "Screen". Based augmented reality application that allows you to find information about specific objects from specific locations such as stations, cafes and so on via the phone's camera. Besides the Galaxy SL also offers an application that serves as ThinkFree Office document viewer, News & Weather that informs you about the updated news and weather forecasts, and Navigation, Maps Places are also ready to facilitate your trip. Samsung Galaxy SL tips and trick, GPS problem

by changing the settings:

1. Open the menu -> settings -> Location -> Security. Uncheck the box next to "Use Wireless Networks".

2. type in the dialer * # * # 3214789650 # * # *

3. enter the LBSTestMode menu, click "Application Settings" change "Operation Mode" from Standalone to "MS-Based."

4. exit.

5. Restart your phone.

6. Open the menu > settings > Location > Security. Check the box next to "Use Wireless Networks".

You can lock the gps is less than 10 seconds.

Samsung Galaxy SL tips and trick, updated firmware

1. download Firmware and extract the file (I9003DXKB2.rar) into I9003DXKB2-I9003DXKB2-I9003OLBKB2_HOME.tar

download Odin3_v1.82

download drivers (you need Kies).

2. install drivers, run Odin. Do not forget to close the program Kies.

3. go to download mode

turn off phone -> disconnect the battery, sim, sdcard -> plug the battery -> press and hold the [volume down] + [home] + [power] -> wait until the pictures come out "green robot hold a shovel".

4. connect the data cable to phone and computer, wait until "the driver software was successfully installed".

5. program moved to Odin, which checked only [Auto Reboot], [F. Reset Time] and [PDA].

6. click the [PDAs], navigate to the file-I9003DXKB2 I9003DXKB2-I9003OLBKB2_HOME.tar

7. Click [Start] button, wait a few minutes until everything is completed. If successful, your phone will restart. wait for it to restart again. and into the normal state (lockscreen).

9. turn off the phone, plug the sim and microSD, press and hold the power button.

Samsung Galaxy SL tips and trick, unbrick phone (stuck logo)

1. Extract the firmware and Odin. Turn off Kies, then run the Odin application.

2. Check Re-Partition, Auto Reboot, and F. reset Time

3. Click the PIT, then open the file latona_20110114.pit

4. Mode download, press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down

5. Connect your phone to the computer using a data cable, wait until Odin recognize your phone.

6. Click Start, wait a minute and then your phone will restart itself (blank display).

7. Disconnect the USB cable, unplug the phone battery. Wait 10 seconds, plug in another battery.

8. Mode download, Connect the phone to the computer.

9. Click the Reset button on the Odin.

10. In Odin, make sure the Re-Partition is NOT checked, Auto Reboot, and (F. Reset Time leave to checked).

11. Click the PDA, open the file I9003XWKB1-REV08-ALL-low-CL890783.tar.md5

12. Click the PHONE button, open the file MODEM_I9003XXKB1_REV_00_CL889972.tar.md5

13. Click the CSC, open file-I9003 GT-CSC-DBTKB2.tar.md5

14. Click the Start button.

15. Wait until everyone is finished, then phone will enter the language selection menu. (Do not wrong choice).

16. If ever in the backup, please restored backup.

1. open Super Manager

2. select APK Manager (refresh and appears all applications that are on phone).

3. select the application that will be backed up.

4. select the "bAPK"

5. Save Application as: Readable Display Name

6. Completed, the GER in the folder sdcard / SuperTaskManager / MyAPKs

Samsung Galaxy SL tips and trick, change SD card becomes internal memory

Introduction: Galaxy SL (4Gb model)has three memory partitions built in.

1. Internal Phone memory- Consists of Internal Phone storage (1.87 GB) and Personal data (72.27 MB). This is not accessible through the USB mounting.

2. Internal SD card storage (1.52 GB) which is remaining partitioned memory from the 4GB phone memory. This partition is called as sdcard by the system. This is the memory which needs to be boosted for increasing efficiency to install games, and applications which needs to stay in internal sdcard.

3. external sdcard called as external_SD by system. This memory is added by user using micro sd card (upto 32GB) for storage purpose.

This hack makes use of external sdcard as internal sdcard, thus providing storage capacity upto 32 GB depending upon the capacity of microSDcard added by user. The internal sdcard memory is converted o external_SD, thus two memory are swapped by using simple modified path in the vold.fstab.

Just a word of caution here to use microSDcard of higher class than class 4 to keep the system snappier with fast read write ability. Your microSD should be formatted as FAT32 to be recognized by system.

I came a cross with this hack at lowyat.net, posted by 3snow. So the credit goes to him, but you can thank me for bringing this to your knowledge.

But let me make it clear, its not easy to screw your phone unless you are willing to restore it on your own.

This hack makes use of modified vold.fstab file, which requires to be replaced in the system/etc folder. This swaps the internal sdcard memory as external_SD and external_SD as internal memory.

The vold.fstab files posted here are specific to Samsung GT-I9003 Froyo release version 2.2.1. The structure of this file may vary from Phone to phone across different models and android release versions. So you may use the technique/ hack for swapping the memory but it is not guaranteed to work with other android phones using the same modified vold.fstab other than I9003.

I have attached two zip files here.

1. ori_voldfstab.zip - for restoring the phone memory to original state and

2. mod_voldfstab.zip - to swap the internal sdcard memory with external mSDCRD memory.

Follow the instructions below to run this mod on your phone.

Requirements:

-The most important requirement is root access

-First back up your data, both Phone as well as SDCARD, before installing this MOD as a precautionary measure, in case you encounter trouble and lose data.

-If you are using application to SD for some or all applications you will lose them as the memory will be swapped so first you need to change the storage to phone memory in menu>settings>Applications>Manage applications as phone memory.


Instructions:

1) Download the attached files, keep the ori_voldfstab.zip aside for future (if you forget to back it up) to revert the original state.

2) Unzip mod_voldfstab.zip and copy the file on to your external_SD.

3) Now you need to backup your original vold.fstab from / system / etc folder to sdcard / vold directory using Root explorer, just in case if you encounter any problem, you can replace the backed up original file to revert the original state.

To do this Browse to /system/etc folder, copy "vold.fstab" from that folder, then go to /sdcard, paste the "vold.fstab" inside a folder "vold" eg: sdcard/vold.

3) Now using root explorer, Copy the modified "vold.fstab" unzipped from mod_voldfstab.zip downloaded from attachment here and put on your extrenal_SD. Browse to / system / etc folder. Make the system / etc folder writable (R/W) by clicking on mount R / W on top in root explorer and paste "vold.fstab". Accept permission to replace the original file.

4) Restart ur phone, You are done.

You have your microSDCARD as your internal sdcard and actual internal sdcard as external_SD. Now you have huge space to play games install applications and Maps for Navigation etc..

Trouble shoot :

In case you dont see your internal SDCARD, you wont see external SDCARD also after using this file, but not to worry it could happen due to either problem with vold.fstab or the file system format of microSD or may be even both.

If its due to incompaticle or wrong vold.fstab:
To restore you will have to push the original vold.fstab to / system / etc folder using adb as your sdcard is not visible.

If the problem is due to incompatible file format of microSD:
Just Swith off your phone take out microSD card and format it as FAT32 system in card reader. Put it back and switch on the Phone.

If both fails. then just take out sdcard, simcard and go to download mode using three button combo and reflash te phone with the desired stock firmware for the Phone. You will be restored to original setup.
